Case study - professional reference cinema
Vivid Research's brief was to design a world class professional reference cinema that would be used by the clients at Dolby Laboratories to quality control Hollywood digital master copies before distribution to cinemas around the world

Although Vivid Research primarily specialises in desinging the finest home cinemas, this project enabled us to fully utilise our years of experience from professional cinema backgrounds, and push the boundaries of design and management and ensure the project was delivered on time.

Our design consisted of over 50 CAD drawings and 3D renderings showing the exact details and plans for the overall system schematic, the control of room acoustics, projection angles and dimensions, loudspeaker positions, seating positions, the lighting design, interior design and styling, cabling, rack wiring, floor construction etc
The centre piece of the room is a beautiful custom designed console from which the whole control quality control process can be run.

The cinema features a 6m wide Cinemascope perforated screen with motorised masking. The stunning 2k image quality is from a Barco DLP Cinema projector with the Dolby 3D cinema system integrated. And as you would expect in a cinema at the headquarters of world leading cinema sound specialists Dolby, no compromises have been made when it comes to audio. 18 individual channels of sound are processed by Dolby Lake processors to produce awesome and finely tuned reference surround sound.
The room is finished off with suede covered acoustic wall panels, and lighting channels controlled by an automated Lutron system, as well as a very nice coffee machine and soft leather sofas of course.
